I just wrapped up sponsoring the Boston Sports Blogapalooza for the second time and I confirmed why it's one of my favorite niche events that I've been to. Boston is such a great sports town and the bloggers, podcasters and social media folks here are so passionate about their teams that they really turn out to network.  

We kicked things off by watching the Bruins game at The Harp, a great bar just across the street from TD Garden.  The crowd was definitely into the game as the Bruins put a 4-2 beating on the Washington Capitals.  We were able to have some good conversations with some bloggers and podcasters, and I had a great time showing off some of our content affiliate focused tools and minds were definitely blown.   I think the biggest difference between this event and the last Palooza event I went to (Palooza Unplugged in 2012) was the fact that affiliate tools, especially in AvantLink have advanced to really meet bloggers and other content creators where they are.  I also felt that the attitudes of the bloggers towards affiliate marketing and taking control of their monetization had changed a lot since 2012, when I encountered a pretty heavy percentage of bloggers who had signed over their ad inventory to sites like YardBarker to make money. 

Once the game wrapped up, Chad Waite from AvantLink and I teamed up to present a 30 minute session that gave an overview of affiliate marketing, how to promote affiliate offers in a way that compliments your content, and some best practices in promoting the Fanatics.com offer.  The audience was engaged and we could see a lot of light bulbs coming on as we laid out our recommended approach to 35-40 attendees.  We got some great questions as well and have some pretty encouraging conversations afterward.  Thanks to "Papa Palooza" Joe Gill for putting things together and making sure that the sponsors all got what they needed out of the event. 

After we wrapped up, I had a great time talking shop and riffing on tools and tool improvements with Chad and got some new ideas for improvements I can implement in the Fanatics programs moving forward.  All in all, this whirlwind trip was a great one and I feel that getting a good ROI won't be tough.   I can't wait for the 2015 edition of the Palooza!
